Creating a Valentines Day Blog

You might consider the topic of this post slightly inappropriate. Do you?


Despite your feelings, though, we got you to click through to our post. And the point of any good blog title is simply to get people to click on your title and read your blog. (The meta-description of your blog is equally important, by the way.)


Blogs bring traffic to your website, and the use of the right words in the blog title to attract the attention you need makes all the difference between a successful blog and a piece of writing that goes completely unnoticed. The psychology of blogging is just gaining leverage as a field of study, too.


Which blogging words don’t work …


My favorite example of this is often the structure and topics of legal blogs. Lawyers sometimes feel the need to cite statutes, present horrible, morally gloomy circumstances, and even use legal terms in their writing. (i.e. en loco parentis)


Unfortunately, unless you’re writing for fellow attorneys, or a trade magazine, most of us just don’t want to work that hard to understand what is being said in a blog post, do we?


Instead, we are Googling attorney sites to get easy answers, like what makes a dog bite a personal injury case? Or how do I know when I should consult an attorney over my mother’s will?


Which blogging words do work …


The use of common knowledge in blogs, presented in an approachable, easy-to-understand format is what attracts an audience to your blog. And since you’ll strive to educate that audience, they’ll gladly see you as the expert in your field.


Holidays like Valentine’s Day are an easy way to promote your business using buzz words that bring quick traffic into your website. When you write articles people want to read, they’ll spend a little time learning about you.


Let’s take a look at some awesome Valentine’s Day ideas you can use to attract more traffic to your blog (or get more newsletter clicks):


  • Candy or gift cliches

  • Nicknames or pet Names (i.e. Sweetie, Darling, Honey)

  • Puns related to love

  • Tongue-in-cheek ex-relationship references

  • Funny common knowledge jokes

Now, as you’re giving your newsletter a headline or spinning out your content for St. Valentine’s day, you’ll want to look at what you wrote, then kick it up a notch to get your business more clicks. Maybe you start with:


  • Delicious Valentine Candy for a Loved One

  • Say I Love You with Chocolate

  • Feeling lonely? Here’s the Cure

But to really get clicks to your blog, to get that sweet, sweet traffic flowing, you should say:


  • Yum! Delectable Sweets You Won’t Find Anywhere Else

  • Say More Than I Love You with These 6 Gift Ideas

  • Alone on Valentine’s? 10 Easy Ways to Get a Date Right Now

Even if you have the type of business that’s as unsexy as they come, spin your topic into something everyone and anyone can relate to in a fun, unique way.


If you have to, aim for a common topic like alcohol, travel, or local sports. Maybe you repurpose a post into the “Top 10 Sexiest Beaches for a Romantic Get-Away.”


Remember that it’s not exactly what you say, but how you use your blogging words to make a difference in the way you brand yourself. Great titles and headlines are the first step to get you noticed and increase the traffic on your blog.
