analytics plugins for wordpress

Analytics let you know how your website is doing. Your site analytics tell you which pages, posts, and features are popular with your visitors, how long people stay on your site, and more. By monitoring analytics, you can increase site traffic, improve the performance of your online marketing campaigns, and boost conversion rates.

On this list, you’ll find WordPress analytics plugins based on tools ranging from the well-known, like Google Analytics, to those you may be less familiar with, such as Piwick. Each of these plugins will integrate with your WordPress-based website, and deliver valuable information for your small business.

Analytics Plugins for WordPress

Easy Google Analytics for WordPress

If you’ve never worked with analytics before and want to start with the absolute basics, this plugin’s for you. Easy Google Analytics for WordPress is simply an automated plugin that embeds the Google analytics code into your WordPress site for you. Access to analytical data is then available on your WordPress dashboard.

The downside to this plugin is its simplicity. Since it only adds the standard tracking code, you won’t have access to some of the advanced features provided by Google Analytics. However, you can always upgrade to a more complex plugin once you’ve seen how analytics works for your business.

Yoast’s Google Analytics for WordPress

From the developer of what is arguably the most popular SEO plugin for WordPress, Yoast’s Google Analytics plugin is a simple way to gain access to the more powerful features of Google Analytics that aren’t available through the standard shortcut of copying a tracking code into your theme.

This analytics plugin for WordPress adds the tracking code for you, and allows you to track image search keywords, downloads, AdSense clicks, and outbound clicks. You can set custom analytics variables to track views and clicks by single category, tags, post type, author name, and more.

Google Analyticator

Another plugin based on the most widely used analytics platform, the easy-to-install Google Analyticator is perfect for the less tech-inclined, allowing you to log on to Google Analytics from any WordPress-based website through an automated JavaScript code, without having to mess with the template code.

In addition to integrating Google Analytics with your site, this plugin supports outbound link tracking, download tracking, event tracking, and any advanced tracking codes provided by Google. It also includes a number of widgets to make analytics easier, such as a summary of website users and a graph on the dashboard showing visitors for the last 30 days.

Extended Google Analytics

There are plenty of free plugins based on Google Analytics, but depending on your business goals, in some cases it makes sense to invest a little. Extended Google Analytics costs $12 (a one-time licensing fee), but provides additional features that may be worth purchasing.

Some of the advanced features of this plugin include:

  • Automatic AdSense linking and analytics.

  • Auto event tracking, including downloads, outbound links, and mailto: links.

  • A campaign tracking link generator that provides precise analytics for newsletters, banner ads, and other marketing campaign types.

The downside here is that it’s not simple to use, although it requires only a basic knowledge of coding. In order to use this plugin, you need to run a Piwick installation with your WordPress website. Some of the additional features for this platform include shortcodes and multi-site installation.

Optimizely
