The official shareholders meeting of Berkshire Hathaway only last about ten minutes. That’s how long it takes to take care of the company business. So what do they do during the other 6.5 hours? People ask questions and Warren Buffett, along with Vice-Chairman Charlie Munger, answer them.
It’s the answers from the two gentlemen that attracts over 40,000 shareholders to the annual meeting. You read that right. Over 40,000 (some people told me the number maybe as high as 60,000)! It’s pretty much like a rock concert. People who want a good seat will camp out overnight at the CenturyLink Arena to wait for the doors to open at 7am the next day.
The shareholders meeting is a 3-day event. Starting with a cocktail reception on Friday, to the annual meeting on Saturday, and concluding on Sunday with a 5K run, shareholder shopping day, and dinner at Gorat’s Steakhouse and Piccolo’s Steakhouse. Other than Warren Buffett, Omaha is known for steaks, so I’m not shocked that Berkshire would do steaks dinners.
The Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting is the biggest shareholders meeting I have ever attended. It’s also one of the most fun. If you’re a Berkshire shareholder, I highly recommend you attend one. At 83 and 90 years old, there’s no telling how many more meetings Warren and Charlie will be doing.
