How to change Guest Blogging Strategy after MyBlogGuest.com Penalty?

Guest Blogging after MyBlogGuest.com Penalty

With Google penalizing the popular guest blogging community, MyBlogGuest.com, the blogosphere is bending towards the perception that guest blogging shouldn’t be pursued.

Certainly, the panic among bloggers is understandable. However, to decide to boycott guest blogging won’t solve anything. The concept still works. All that is needed is to change some strategies and save blogs from future penalties.

Tips to Change Guest Blogging Strategy

These tips should help.

  • Review Published Guest Posts

This is a time consuming task if you accepted a lot of guest posts in the past but a necessary step. Review all the published guest content and take these steps, as and when applicable on case-by-case basis:

  1. Improve the content. You might have accepted thin content in the past. Review and improve them.

  2. Check the guest blogger credentials. If they look spammy, remove them. Or, contact the blogger and offer Google+ Authorship.

  3. NoFollow advertorial links. If the post references good external content, let it be a dofollow.

  4. Monitor author bio links. Avoid anchor keyword links unless the anchor keyword is the brand name.

The point is to monitor outgoing links. Chances are high that a large number of guest bloggers were anonymous backlink seeking writers. No point in blaming them. They were just doing their job. What you can do is nofollow the advertorial links, especially the un-related niche links.

  • Do a 301 Redirect

If certain posts come under the excessively thin content category which is beyond redemption, it’s better to remove the page altogether and do a 301 redirect.

If you’re using good SEO plugins, assuming that you blog on WordPress, like Yoast SEO or All-in-One SEO pack, they have the 301 option. Do use it. Otherwise, the page will show a 404 error and it’s not recommended.

  • Avoid Anonymous Guest Blogging Outreach Contacts

Anyone who is aware of how digital marketing works knows the value of authority; therefore, start publishing guest posts which come from “real” person. A “real” guest blogger won’t shy away from displaying his/her image in guest posts.

Encourage Google+ Authorship so that the image of the guest blogger comes up in search results.

  • Focus on Content

I know that the quality of content matters and not word count but certain researches have shown that search engines value long-form content. Make sure the future posts are in-depth write-ups and they can go beyond 750+ words.

I hope these tips help you to modify your current guest blogging strategy.
