Entrepreneur Creates Ghoulish Treats Like Marshmallow Brains and More

ghoulish treats

When launching a business, it’s important to offer a product or service that stands apart. That’s certainly what baker Annabel de Vetten has done with her bakery, the Conjurer’s Kitchen. Instead of basic cakes and other desserts, de Vetten creates ghoulish treats and unusual custom edible creations ranging from chocolate skulls to graveyard cakes.

This is definitely an unusual niche. Consumers can find cute cakes with flowers and happy birthday messages just about anywhere. But where would you go if you were looking for, say, a customized skull cake with octopus tentacles? That’s the type of need de Vetten is looking to fill, stating on her website:

“We do not make ‘just a simple sponge cake,’ those can be bought at the supermarket. Here even the most basic designs are well thought out and personalized.”

The baker, based in Birmingham in the UK, didn’t originally set out to open a bakery specializing in creepy cakes, or even to become a professional baker for that matter. She started by simply baking her own wedding cake and then accepting some custom orders. At first, she mainly focused on magic themed cakes and her business evolved from there.

Some of her newer designs are downright disturbing, and might not be the most appealing to everyone’s appetite. But many of her creations came from custom requests, so clearly there is a market for her brand of ghoulish goodies. You can have a look at some of her intricate creations below.

She created this cake to celebrate the 85th birthday of magician David Berglas. The cake shows a levitating table that is completely off its feet, a reference to a trick Berglas is well known for.

But it’s not all chocolate and cakes for the Conjurer’s Kitchen. De Vetten has worked with a variety of different sweets. This brain is made of marshmallows.
