OfferPipe: A New App For Retailers To Create Mobile Offers

As a small business owner, you know one of the best ways to attract new customers is through special promotions. Everyone loves something for free or at a bargain. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can be something as simple as 20% off, or two for the price of one. Show your generous side and the customers will come flocking back.

However, promotions are time-consuming and difficult to maintain. OfferPipe aims to streamline the process by creating ads for credit card-linked offers. These come straight from your POS (point of sale) device. The app is currently being tested in New York, San Francisco and Seattle and should be available in other parts of the country soon.

OfferPipe lets you select from pre-programmed credit card offers on your POS device. It then distributes them automatically through digital ad exchanges. These, in turn, place them on the mobile versions of sites like Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and map apps. Customers find your offers through these mobile apps when they arrive in your neighborhood.

In an interview with Small Business Trends, Terry Crowley, CEO of TranSEND, which operates OfferPipe, explained:

“Instead of sitting behind a desktop computer or fumbling with a tablet or phone, merchants can simply press a few buttons on their credit card machine to publish promotions. Ad networks and social media sites pick up the promotions and target them to the right consumer, at the right time and in the right place. OfferPipe is a way for local merchants to easily get their business in front of millions of consumers.”

OfferPipe is programmed directly into the software of the POS terminal. So the business owner does not have to do anything. This is the same software that processes card and check payments. There is no complicated set-up to take care of, the company says.

Once you have selected which offers you want, OfferPipe does the rest, distributing them locally.

When customers are in the area and they want to take advantage of your offer, they simply link their credit or debit card to your promotion, via the publisher’s app. Customers can then redeem the promotion when they visit your store.

Here’s a video showing how it works:

OfferPipe costs $29 per month. The cost will include creating each offer, handling redemption and automated patron enrollment. It will also handle publishing offers to lists, and basic reporting. You can start and stop the program at any time. There is no contract to sign.
